We’re sharing the articles featured in the March 2021 edition of Comments from Counsel, our quarterly newsletter. In this issue:

  • Unemployment Benefits Fraud – The pandemic brought with it a host of negative consequences, including unemployment insurance fraud. In this article, the attorneys of our Employment & Labor practice detail the practical steps you can take if you are a victim. Read more.
  • New President for WilliamsMcCarthy LLP – In January, Troy Haggestad was elected to serve as WilliamsMcCarthy LLP’s president. He joined the firm in 1995 and is one of the senior members of the Employment Law and Litigation Groups. He has served on the board of directors for Williams McCarthy for many years and succeeds John J. Holevas, who will continue to practice as a senior member of the Litigation Group while remaining active in firm management as a member of the board of directors.
  • Williams McCarthy LLP Associate Co-Authors Article – Associate Patricia Hall co-authored the article, “Torts and Technology in the 21st Century,” for the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel’s quarterly publication, The Monograph. It details the far-reaching impact of technology on tort practice. The article includes topics on telemedicine, technologies like robotics in surgery, digital forensics of mobile devices in liability investigations, use of the internet in litigation, privacy implications with technology use, and the Biometric Privacy Act.

WILMAC IN THE COMMUNITY

  • Hope for Haitians – As a developing nation with limited resources, a lack of proper sanitation, and dense living conditions, Haiti did not have the infrastructure to effectively combat the COVID-19 pandemic on its own. Help from non-profit organizations like Hope for Haitians was critical to getting resources and services to those in need. WilliamsMcCarthy LLP supported a virtual summer food drive through Hope for Haitians that raised funds to help meet the need.
  • YMCA of Rock River Valley – WilliamsMcCarthy LLP sponsored the YMCA of Rock River Valley’s Business Impact Award for 2021. While the award recipient would regularly be honored at the spring Community Dinner, we were pleased to help recognize the contributions of a local business that, like Wilmac, is committed to supporting organizations like the YMCA that meet community needs.
