James Roddy has always been drawn to problem solving and figuring out how things work, which is part of what makes transactional law such a perfect fit for him. With a background in political science, he developed strong analytical and communication skills that naturally complement his legal work. From negotiating agreements to guiding clients through complex business and real estate matters, he enjoys the challenge of helping people achieve their goals.
“I like that in transactions, we are building solutions together,” said Roddy. “It’s collaborative, strategic, and rewarding to see a plan come together that makes a real difference for clients.”
He also wants the legal process to feel approachable.
“I want clients to feel comfortable asking questions and to understand the options available to them. Law can seem intimidating, but I want people to feel confident talking to me and know that I’ll guide them clearly through the process.”
In 2024, Roddy was a summer associate with the WilliamsMcCarthy. His summer at the firm offered him a firsthand view of how impactful legal work can be.
“From day one, I was involved in meaningful projects and worked directly with attorneys,” he said. “It showed me that attention to detail and thoroughness are critical because even small mistakes can have lasting consequences. That experience confirmed that this was the right place to begin my career.”
James focuses on business, real estate, and estate planning law, helping clients navigate areas that often feel overwhelming.
“Law isn’t just about winning cases,” he said. “It’s about helping people understand their options, plan effectively, and reach their goals.”
That approachable, client-focused mindset guides how he works every day.
Outside the office, James balances his professional drive with a strong connection to family and community. Growing up on a farm in Sterling, Illinois surrounded by horses, goats, and dogs, he learned patience, responsibility, and hard work. Today, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending his younger brothers’ events, and staying active through basketball, soccer, and outdoor walks. He also loves movies and reading, finding these activities a perfect counterbalance to his work life.
Roddy pairs real-world legal experience with a genuine commitment to his community and the people in it. His priority is making the law easy to understand, guiding clients through complex matters with clarity, compassion, and steady support.
